The primary objective of the study is to compare dose-response effect of three dose levels of strontium malonate to placebo on bone resorption quantified by S-CTX-1 following 12 weeks of treatment.

Selective absorption of fluorinated gases by deep eutectic solvents: Thermodynamics and molecular insights

Fluorinated gases (F-gases) emitted from refrigerants significantly contribute to the greenhouse effect.This necessitates the development of advanced technologies for recycling and reusing refrigerants.This work systematically investigates selective absorption F-gases difluoromethane (R32) and pentafluoroethane (R125) with deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as absorbents from thermodn. and mol. perspectives.The three DES candidates [ChCl][MA], [N₁₁₁₁Cl][MA] and [TMBAC][MA] were screened from 132 potential DESs consisting of 12 hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) and 11 hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) by using the COSMO-RS model to calculate the Henry's constants, selectivity and separation index of F-gases in DESs combining with the viscosity and thermal stability of DESs.The solubility of R32/R125 in the DESs screened were exptl. measured and qual. predicted by the COSMO-RS model.The thermodn. mixing properties of the enthalpy change (ΔH), Gibbs free energy (ΔG), and entropy (ΔS) in R32/R125-DES systems were analyzed.The mol.-level R32/R125 absorption mechanisms were clarified via quantum chem. (QC) calculationsMultiple interactions exist between DESs and R32/R125 (i.e., C-H···O, C-H···Cl and van der Waals (vdW)), while the C-H···Cl interaction between HBAs and F-gases plays a dominate role in absorption processes.This study aims to provide a theor. guidance for designing novel DESs for high-efficiency absorption of F-gases.

Malonic acid-based deep eutectic solvents for the extraction of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic basic compounds from coal tar: Experimental and molecular mechanistic insights

The extraction of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic basic compounds (NHBCs) from coal tar is necessary to promote the clean and efficient utilization of coal resources and the protection of environment.This paper developed three green and efficient deep eutectic solvents (DESs) for the separation of NHBCs.The hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) and hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) composing the DESs were screened by thermodn. properties of selectivity, solvent capacity, and performance index calculated by COSMO-RS model.The extraction performance of the selected DESs was assessed by exptl. determination of phase equilibriumThe DES ([TEAB:2MA]) composed of tetraethylammonium bromide (TEAB) as HBA and malonic acid (MA) as HBD exhibited the best extraction performance for pyridine.The influence of key parameters on the extraction efficiency, such as agent-oil mass ratio, extraction time, extraction temperature, standing time, and initial pyridine content, were conducted.Also the reusability of DESs under the optimal exptl. parameters was investigated.Finally, the quantum chem. (QC) calculations and FT-IR anal. were used synergistically to provide microscopic insights into the extraction mechanism.This work provides a valuable reference for the development of new processes for the extraction of NHBCs from coal tar.

Unexpected decreased material removal rate in copper chemical mechanical polishing due to reduced electrostatic attraction caused by dicarboxylic acid

Electrostatic force, as a part of the interaction between the abrasive particles and the wafer surface, influences chem. mech. polishing (CMP).However, current studies lack relevant mechanisms, restricting the advancement of copper CMP.This study investigated the role of the electrostatic force in copper CMP via choosing complexing agents to tune the electrostatic force besides their complexation effect.The results reveal that at acidic pH and with a low concentration of H₂O₂, the material removal rate (MRR) of copper decreases unexpectedly after adding dicarboxylic acids.The decrement is as high as 75 % after adding 1 mM adipic acid.For the mechanism, copper CMP is a nanoscale corrosive wear process.Wear is influenced by interfacial interaction.After adding adipic acid, its anions can be adsorbed, neutralizing the surface potential of cuprous oxide.Therefore, the electrostatic attraction between the silica abrasive particles and the copper surface, which is the major part of the adhesion force, decreases.Accordingly, the wear effect is weakened, and the MRR decreases.Addnl., zwitterions of amino acids do not alter the surface potentials but enhance the corrosion, and thus the MRR increases.Zwitterionic amino acids are recommended.This study provides insights into material removal in copper CMP.
