In the past few decades, the incidence of endocervical adenocarcinomas (ECAs) has been on the rise both in absolute numbers and overall proportion in cervical cancers. ECAs remain a significant public health problem despite advances in treatment options. Patients with ECA have a poorer survival rate than patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), especially in patients with metastatic tumors. In the newly published 2020 World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Female Genital Tumors, ECAs are subclassified into human papillomavirus-associated (HPVA) and human papillomavirus-independent (HPVI) groups. Meanwhile, PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy has been approved for the treatment of advanced cervical cancer, but there are still many deficiencies. Therefore, the investigators plan to use the new classification of female genital tumors and conduct a clinical trial to explore the safety and effectiveness of compound kushen injection combined with pabolizumab in the treatment of metastatic, recurrent, persistent cervical adenocarcinoma.

Clinical Study of the Effects of Compound Kushen Injection on Radiation-induced Oral Mucositis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients.

Oral mucositis (OM) is an acute side effect of radiotherapy for head and neck cancer (HNC). OM associated pain affects oral functions and nutrition of the patient that may result in discontinuity of treatment.The purpose of this clinical study is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Compound Kushen Injection (CKI) on oral mucositis caused by radiotherapy of head and neck cancer.

Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of the Matrine Derivatives as a Novel Family of Potential Anticancer Agents

Background:FufangKushen injection’ was a Chinese Traditional anticancer drug, which has been widely used to treat cancer in combination with other anticancer drugs.Objective:Our goal is to synthesize a series of novel 13-dithiocarbamates matrine derivatives using matrine (1) as the lead compound, and evaluate the biological activities of the obtained compounds.Method:The in vitro cytotoxicity of the target compounds against three human cancer cell lines (Hep3B, LM3 and BeL-7404) was evaluated. To investigate the mechanism of biological activity, cell cycle analysis was performed.Result:The results revealed that compounds 6o and 6v displayed the most significant anticancer activity against three cancer cell lines with IC50 values in the range of 3.42-8.05 μM, which showed better activity than the parent compound (Matrine). SAR analysis indicated that the introduction of a substituted amino dithiocarbamate might significantly enhance the antiproliferative activity.Conclusion:During the newly synthesized compounds, matrine analog 6v exhibited a potent effect against three human tumor cell lines. The mode of action of 6v was to inhibit the G0/G1 phase arrest. Therefore, compound 6v has been selected as a novel-scaffold lead to further structural optimizations or as a chemical probe for exploring anticancer pathways of this kind of compounds.

Investigating the anti-angiogenic effects of Fufang Kushen Injection in combination with cisplatin using a zebrafish model.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine formula Fufang Kushen Injection (FKI) has demonstrated potential to enhance the efficacy and reduce the toxicity of the chemotherapeutic drug cisplatin. However, there is insufficient evidence to determine whether the combination of matrine and cisplatin were linked to the angiogenesis pathway. In this study, we selected two zebrafish lines, AB and Tg (vegfr2: GFP), as in vivo models to rapidly assess the anti-angiogenesis effects. KFI and cisplatin had no obvious effects when used individually, but combined KFI (5 and 10 μL/mL) and cisplatin (50μg/mL) significantly inhibited the zebrafish intersegmental vessel (ISV) formation and growth. Matrine at 50 μg/mL also showed synergetic anti-angiogenesis activity with cisplatin (50μg/mL) in 48hpf zebrafish larvae. This study has shown the potential of FKI to enhance cisplatin efficacy and reduce its toxicity by inhibiting angiogenesis. These results contribute to the scientific evidence supporting the use of KFI in combination with cisplatin to treat cancer in the clinic.

[Association rules analysis of Fufang Kushen injection in combination with modern medications in treating lung cancer: real-world study based on hospital information].

The present study was aimed to analyze the association rules of Fufang Kushen injection in combination with other modern medications in treating lung cancer based on the electrical medical records in real world clinical situations extracted from hospital information system in Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and provide reference for improving rationality of clinical drug use and exploring the prescription rules as well as subsequent in-depth analysis. The electrical medical records of the hospitalized patients using Fufang Kushen injection for lung cancer were extracted to analyze the frequency distribution characteristics in combined application with western medicine, and Apriori algorithm was used to analyze the specific association rules in combined drug use. A total of 49 597 patients were included in the study. The commonly combined modern medications included 5-HT receptor blockers, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, antitumor immune regulating drugs, glucocorticoid drugs and analgesics, which was usually applied in combination with traditional Chinese medications such as those for removing blood stasis, spleen and stomach nourishing drugs, Qi-regulating agent, heat-clearing and detoxifying prescriptions, laxative and Qi invigorating agent in clinical treatment. The results revealed that the distribution characteristics in combined application and association combinations of Fufang Kushen injection had specific rules, consistent with the clinical orientation of this drug in treatment of lung cancer. Such results may provide reference for reasonable application of Fufang Kushen injection in clinical treatment.
