Annual Hold’em For Life Charity Challenge Sets a New Record

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Breaking all previous records, Hold’em For Life officially raised over $3 Million at the recent annual Real Estate Charity Challenge. As the biggest turnout ever, the 2022 Hold’em For Life Real Estate event was attended by over 500 top Real Estate executives, coming together at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel for an evening of friendly challenge in the name of charity.
'We\u2019re here to raise funds that support our local hospitals and the brilliant Clinical Fellows that are working every day to improve cancer research outcomes.'
Run exclusively by volunteers and incurring no administration costs, Hold’em For Life is one of Toronto’s leading events to raise money for cancer research. It has been funding life-saving initiatives, financing an unparalleled fellowship program, and supporting the care of cancer patients across Canada since 2006. Over the past 16 years, this nonprofit organization has successfully raised over $42 Million to be distributed among leading cancer research centres including Mount Sinai Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, SickKids Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
“As the number one cause of death in Canada, cancer touches the lives of everyone in our country,” says Event Co-Chair Gavin Cheung, President & Managing Partner of CentreCourt. “We’re here to raise funds that support our local hospitals and the brilliant Clinical Fellows that are working every day to improve cancer research outcomes.”
The goal of this Charity Challenge is to change the way Canadian healthcare can manage cancer symptoms, detect early stages, and save lives.
“Thanks to your unwavering support, our hospitals’ cancer research initiatives have already and will continue to transform how medical professionals diagnose, treat, and even cure cancers,” says Bob Blazevski, Co-Chair of the Event and President & COO at DiamondCorp.
In a brand new initiative, this year Hold’em For Life has created two new permanent Fellowship Endowments. These positions provide support in perpetuity, one each at Sick Kids Hospital and
Princess Margaret Hospital, building a permanent legacy for the organization. The Fellowships are in Neuro-Oncology and Uro-Oncology respectively, researching cancers that impact millions of Canadians each year.
The record-breaking donations received at last night’s event display the strength and generosity of the community, and are a promising sign for a brighter future for Canadian cancer research.
Hold’em For Life Charity Challenge has funded several life-saving breast cancer and prostate cancer research initiatives at various hospitals that have led to over 50 published Hold’em For Life scientific research papers and scientific presentations.
