Metoclopramide, marketed under the brand name REGLAN®, is a small molecule drug that acts as a dopamine-2 (D2) antagonist. This mechanism of action makes it an effective treatment for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and acute or recurrent diabetic gastroparesis (gastric stasis). Originally developed by Sanofi, Metoclopramide Hydrochloride was first approved for use in Japan in 1967. It is commonly available in both oral and injectable formulations. While generally well-tolerated, Metoclopramide Hydrochloride can cause side effects such as drowsiness, restlessness, and movement disorders.
