An Interventional, Single-Center, Randomized, Unblinded, Parallel-Group, Three-Arm Study to Investigate the Superiority of 12 Weeks of Oral Treatment With Ferrous Ascorbate (EBMfer) or Ferrous Fumarate (Eurofer) as Compared to Polysaccharide Iron (FeraMAX) in Hemoglobin Level Changes in Adults Aged 18 and Above With Iron Deficiency Anemia (EFFICACIOUS IRON)

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a widespread condition affecting many people globally. Despite the many cases of IDA, there are few studies that compare the effectiveness of different types of iron supplements with a greater emphasis on the cost of supplements and their tolerability. This study aims to conduct a comparison between different iron supplements to determine the superiority of the iron supplements Ferrous Ascorbate (EBMfer) and Ferrous Fumarate (Eurofer) over polysaccharide iron (FeraMax). This comparison will be conducted by determining the change in hemoglobin levels for participants in this trial over a 3-month period.

Maximizing carbohydrate recovery and lignin fractionation from bamboo through in-situ synthesis of peracetic acid via mild ethyl acetate-hydrogen peroxide treatment

Peracetic acid is regarded as a green solvent for selective delignification in biomass biorefinery.However, its high cost and explosive nature in concentrated forms limit its practicality.In this study, a promising Et acetate-hydrogen peroxide (EA-HP) treatment was developed for the in-situ production of peracetic acid, aiming to efficiently fractionate lignin and carbohydrates from bamboo.Under the optimal conditions at 50°C for 20 h, a peak concentration of peracetic acid generated in-situ by the EA-HP treatment was recorded at 1.7%.This treatment demonstrated outstanding delignification capacity, achieving 95.3% delignification and maximum carbohydrate recoveries of 92.3% and 83.3% for cellulose and hemicellulose, resp.The treatment exhibited selective delignification of bamboo, and the removal of amorphous fraction enhanced the enzymic hydrolysis properties.Finally, lignin oxidation products, such as quinones and carboxylic acids, were identified, elucidating the mechanism of conversion of lignin from aromatic polymers to open-chain structures in the EA-HP system.The present paper proposed a treatment approach achieving efficient delignification and maximizing carbohydrate recovery, and provided a unique concept of biorefinery process.

Facile fabrication of Al-fumarate mixed matrix membranes for azeotrope mixture separation

Pervaporation has emerged as a promising technol. for the separation of methanol azeotropes.However, developing membrane material to enhance the separation performance remains crucial.In this study, aluminum fumarate (Al-fu) particles were successfully incorporated into polyvinyl alc. (PVA) via in-situ growth method, creating mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) on a porous polyacrylonitrile substrate.These Al-fu MMMs were then used for the separation of the methanol azeotropes.Compared to pure PVA membranes, the Al-fu MMMs exhibited a significant increase in both the separation factor and flux when separating a 20/80 wt% methanol/dimethyl carbonate mixture at 40°C.The separation factor increased from 9.2 to 13.2, while the flux increased from 376.8 g·m^-2·h^-1 to 928.2 g·m^-2·h^-1.This enhancement can be attributed to the synergetic effects of size sieving through the pore windows and preferential adsorption of polar solvent mols. by the Al-fu MMMs.Furthermore, the low cost of both Al-fu and PVA, coupled with the facile membrane preparation process, renders this strategy economically viable and practical.Consequently, this approach offers a promising avenue for the development of efficient pervaporation membranes for the separation of azeotropic mixtures

Optimizing doped graphene oxide in MOF-801 to enhance CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2/N2 separation performance

The rapid advancement of industrialization and urbanization significantly escalates the release of CO₂.To capture carbon, composites based on metal-organic frameworks receive increasing attention.In this study, MOF-801 serves as the primary material to significantly increase the adsorption capacity for CO₂ by doping a small amount of graphene oxide.Mol. dynamics simulations are carried out on the materials to study the adsorption mechanism, and the distribution of CO₂ adsorption sites is analyzed.The anal. of the performance of synthetic materials shows that adding a small amount of graphene oxide changes the adsorption capacity of MOF-801 for CO₂ and increases the adsorption sites for CO₂.The highest possible adsorption capacity of MOF-801/GO (2.0 %), according to the results, is 3.00 mmol/g (298 K, 1 bar) and 3.75 mmol/g (273 K, 1 bar), which are 42 % and 19 % greater than that of MOF-801.After 10 cycles of adsorption and desorption, the saturated adsorption capacity of the composite material remains stable.Through 7 breakthrough experiments, the CO₂/N₂ separation performance of MOF-801/GO (2.0 %) remains stable.Therefore, MOF-801/GO composite materials can serve as potential adsorbents for CO₂.
