An Interventional, Single-Center, Randomized, Unblinded, Parallel-Group, Three-Arm Study to Investigate the Superiority of 12 Weeks of Oral Treatment With Ferrous Ascorbate (EBMfer) or Ferrous Fumarate (Eurofer) as Compared to Polysaccharide Iron (FeraMAX) in Hemoglobin Level Changes in Adults Aged 18 and Above With Iron Deficiency Anemia (EFFICACIOUS IRON)

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a widespread condition affecting many people globally. Despite the many cases of IDA, there are few studies that compare the effectiveness of different types of iron supplements with a greater emphasis on the cost of supplements and their tolerability. This study aims to conduct a comparison between different iron supplements to determine the superiority of the iron supplements Ferrous Ascorbate (EBMfer) and Ferrous Fumarate (Eurofer) over polysaccharide iron (FeraMax). This comparison will be conducted by determining the change in hemoglobin levels for participants in this trial over a 3-month period.

Boosting pervaporation separation of m-xylene from m/p-xylene isomers mixture through silicalite-1/PVA composite membrane

Silicalite-1 zeolites/polymer composite membranes are among the most reliable materials for the pervaporation separation of m-X from xylene isomers.However, the separation factors of the present silicalite-1 zeolites/polymer composite membrane are low.This work has succeeded in fabricating dense and defect-free silicalite-1/PVA composite membrane for first improving the pervaporation separation performance of m-X/p-X isomers.The silicalite-1/PVA composite membrane was prepared by combining solution scraping and vacuum thermal crosslinking methods with fumaric acid as a crosslinker (denoted as silicalite-1/PVA-V).The silicalite-1/PVA-V composite membrane with a thickness of 15.3μm, prepared with a fumaric acid/monomeric unit of PVA molar ratio of 0.05 after vacuum thermal crosslinking at 160°C for 2 h, exhibited dense and defect-free structure with extremely low xylene swelling degree, good structural stability and mech. properties as well as excellent pervaporation separation performance.Compared to the pure PVA membrane, the silicalite-1/PVA-V composite membrane exhibited better selective separation performance of m-X isomer.The temperature, amount of fumaric acid, crosslinking degree and membrane thickness significantly influenced the pervaporation separation performance.The optimum selective separation factor of m-X/p-X isomers and the corresponding total permeate flux were about 9.85 and 59.15 g.m^-2.h^-1 (60°C), resp.The pervaporation experiments of long-time and repetitively prepared membrane demonstrated that the silicalite-1/PVA-V composite membrane had long-term structural stability and reproducibility.To demonstrate scalability, we showed that our strategy could produce large-size silicalite-1/PVA-V composite membrane with an area of 1000 cm², which exhibited m-X separation performance similar to that of small membrane coupons.The present work provided a potentially scalable method for producing high-quality silicalite-1/PVA composite membrane for enhancing the pervaporation separation performance of m-X from xylene isomers.

Discovery of metal-organic frameworks for efficient NF3/N2 separation by integrating high-throughput computational screening, machine learning, and experimental validation

Efficient NF₃ recovery through NF₃/N₂ separation enables the sustainable production of NF₃ while mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.Given the vast diversity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), computational screening of existing structures is essential for the discovery of advanced MOF adsorbents capable of achieving efficient NF₃/N₂ separationIn this study, high-performing MOFs with superior NF₃/N₂ separation performance (TSN > 7.5 mmol/g) were identified through high-throughput computational screening.By utilizing the optimal machine learning (ML) algorithm (CatBoost, R² = 0.861), we found that the oxygen-to-metal ratio (omr) is the most critical factor influencing the top-performing MOFs.As an exptl. verification, the identified DOYBEA (A520) MOF, known for its low cost and high stability, exhibited record performance (TSN = 7.11 mmol/g), with a high selectivity of 65.16 and an NF₃ working capacity of 1.70 mmol/g, surpassing all previously reported adsorbents.Breakthrough experiments demonstrated that the NF₃/N₂ mixture can be efficiently separated, and the high-purity NF₃ can be harvested through desorption.This combined approach of ML-assisted mol. simulation and exptl. synthesis provides valuable insights for the discovery of advanced MOFs, facilitating the development of highly efficient adsorbents for NF₃/N₂ separation

Morphology engineering of MIL-88A-derived 0D/1D/2D nanocomposites toward wideband microwave absorption

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely applied in the field of electromagnetic wave absorption (EMWA) on account of unique morphol., simple fabrication, and ultra-high porosity.Nevertheless, the facile method of protecting its structure from being destroyed remains challenging.Herein, we proposed a hydrothermal method combined with a carbonization strategy to construct the 0D/1D/2D Fe₃C@NC@Mo₂C/Fe₃C composites.Owing to the incorporation of polydopamine (PDA), the carbon shell formed during high-temperature carbonization effectively protected the original MIL-88A rod-like structure, and the 2D Mo₂C nano-sheets and 1D Fe₃C nanoparticles were coated on the surface of 1D Fe₃C nanorods.With the increase in carbonization temperature, the EMWA properties of the composites presented a trend of first increasing and then decreasing.Impressively, the composites (at 750°C) exhibited praiseworthy EMWA performances with a min. reflection loss value of -43.70 dB at 8.00 GHz, alongside a maximum effective absorption bandwidth of 6.08 GHz (11.20-17.28 GHz).D. functional theory calculations confirmed the distinctive charge distribution resulting from the heterointerface, which is beneficial to the polarization loss and conductive loss.As a result, the outstanding EMWA performance was credited to the distinctive hierarchical structure, appropriate impedance matching, numerous heterogeneous interfaces, and magnetic loss.Moreover, Radar cross-section calculations indicated that the composites have tremendous potential for practical application.Thus, this work may pave new avenues for designing high-performance and structure-controllable absorbing materials.
