The goal of this clinical trial is to Comparison effectiveness of Oral ivermectin , 1% Permethrin shampoo and 4% Dimeticone liquid gel in the treatment of Pediculosis capitis, to assess the prevalence of lice and associated risk factors between severity groups by using questionnaire-based surveys and diagnostic tests among school children in Baan Nayao, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand.

Participants will receive three different drugs are
oral ivermectin
4% Dimeticone liquid gel
1% Permethrin shampoo
Participants voluntarily received oral ivermectin as per medical prescription, with treatment outcomes, side effects, and satisfaction levels monitored following two treatment cycles. Those exhibiting persistent lice infestations were subsequently treated with 1% permethrin shampoo, the standard treatment, while alternatives were provided for individuals allergic to permethrin. These findings will contribute to formulating tailored, effective, and safe treatment regimens for future patients.

The effect of dimethicone on preventing ileus in patients with pelvic and femoral fractures: A clinical trial

Ileus and pseudo-obstruction are clinical syndromes that are among the most common postoperative complications. Identifying an effective treatment approach for these conditions is essential. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Dimethicone on preventing ileus in patients with pelvic and femoral fractures. This study was conducted on 120 patients, with 60 individuals in the Dimethicone group and 60 individuals in the control group. After recording demographic information and clinical notes, bowel movements and defecation after surgery were also recorded. The statistical tests of Chi-square, Fisher's exact-test, Mann-Whitney, and independent t-test were utilized to compare the data. The primary outcome of the study determined the incidence of ileus in the intervention and control groups (intervention group = 1.7 % and control group = 3.3 %) (P = 0.99). The secondary outcome involved comparing the time of gas expulsion between the two groups, intervention, and control (intervention group = 21.05 h and control group = 22.03 h) (P = 0.065). Although the time of gas and feces expulsion, as well as the initiation of bowel movements and the occurrence of ileus, were lower in the intervention group, there was no statistically significant difference in the postoperative results, particularly regarding the occurrence of ileus and the reduction in the duration of feces and gas expulsion and the initiation of bowel movements in patients receiving Dimethicone compared to the control group. Considering the lack of statistical significance in the obtained results and the absence of similar studies using Dimethicone, further research and larger sample size studies with Dimethicone or other pharmacological methods are needed to find the most effective treatment approach in reducing the occurrence of ileus after surgery.

Visualization of nasal powder distribution using biomimetic human nasal cavity model

Nasal drug delivery efficiency is highly dependent on the position in which the drug is deposited in the nasal cavity. However, no reliable method is currently available to assess its impact on delivery performance. In this study, a biomimetic nasal model based on three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction and three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology was developed for visualizing the deposition of drug powders in the nasal cavity. The results showed significant differences in cavity area and volume and powder distribution in the anterior part of the biomimetic nasal model of Chinese males and females. The nasal cavity model was modified with dimethicone and validated to be suitable for the deposition test. The experimental device produced the most satisfactory results with five spray times. Furthermore, particle sizes and spray angles were found to significantly affect the experimental device's performance and alter drug distribution, respectively. Additionally, mometasone furoate (MF) nasal spray (NS) distribution patterns were investigated in a goat nasal cavity model and three male goat noses, confirming the in vitro and in vivo correlation. In conclusion, the developed human nasal structure biomimetic device has the potential to be a valuable tool for assessing nasal drug delivery system deposition and distribution.

Efficacy of anti-sebum moisturizing cream containing 2% l-carnitine and 5% epigallocatechin gallate in seborrhea: A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND:

Seborrhea leads to facial greasiness and unpleasant feeling. People with seborrhea also have trouble with selecting moisturizers. l-Carnitine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) are reported anti-sebum properties. However, neither efficacy comparison nor the combination effect of the two topical anti-sebum agents was studied. Moisturizing cream with these agents is supposed to provide skin with an optimal water-oil balance.

AIMS:

To compare the efficacy of moisturizer containing 2% l-carnitine or 5% EGCG alone on sebum controlling, and the synergistic effect of these two agents.

METHODS:

Three study creams were formulated by adding three kinds of anti-sebum agents which were 2% l-carnitine, 5% EGCG, and 2% l-carnitine plus 5% EGCG in moisturizing cream base of dimethicone and glycerin. A randomized clinical trial was conducted. Ninety subjects, divided into three groups, applied the cream for 4 weeks. Sebum level, skin capacitance, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were evaluated at Weeks 0, 1, 2, and 4. Life qualities and subjective outcomes were assessed before and after treatment.

RESULTS:

The mean sebum reduction from baseline was statistically significant in all treatment groups (p < 0.01). The median time to oil control was longer in l-carnitine group. The combine group had significantly greater anti-sebum efficacy than l-carnitine group (p = 0.009). All three groups had significant improvement of other objective parameters and subjective outcomes.

CONCLUSIONS:

The anti-sebum moisturizing cream exhibited beneficial effect on the sebum reduction with improve skin hydration in people with seborrhea and made users satisfied. The EGCG group and the combine group show the greater anti-sebum effect than the l-carnitine group.

How to Prevent and Treat Dry, Chapped Lips; American Academy of Dermatology

ROSEMONT, Ill., Jan. 26, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- For many people, winter skin probably conjures up images of dry, cracked hands, flaky skin, and windburn. However, the lips can be affected too. And while it may seem that dry, cracked lips are something you have to live with until spring, dermatologists from the American Academy of Dermatology say it’s possible to have soft, supple lips year-round by following a few simple steps. “Cold, dry weather; sun damage; and frequently licking your lips are just some of the reasons your lips might feel dry and chapped this winter,” says board-certified dermatologist Noëlle Sherber, MD, FAAD. “Understanding these causes and anything else that might trigger your chapped lips goes a long way in preventing and treating them.” To prevent and treat dry, chapped lips at home, Dr. Sherber recommends the following tips: Choose non-irritating lip products. Look for lip balms, lipsticks and other lip products that contain ingredients like castor seed oil, ceramides, dimethicone or mineral oil. Make sure your lip product is also labeled “fragrance free” and “hypoallergenic.” Avoid ingredients such as camphor, menthol or eucalyptus, as these can irritate your lips. If your lips burn, sting or tingle after using a lip product, stop using that product. Apply lip balm throughout the day and before you go to bed. If your lips are very dry and cracked, try a thick ointment, such as petroleum jelly. Ointment seals in moisture longer than waxes or oils. Protect your lips outdoors. Apply a lip balm with an SPF of 30 or higher before going outdoors, even in the winter. Look for a lip balm with titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide and reapply it every two hours while outdoors. Keep your skin hydrated. Drink plenty of water and use a humidifier at home — especially in your bedroom while you sleep. Stop licking, biting or picking at your lips. When your lips feel dry, it may feel natural to wet them by licking them, but this can worsen the problem. When you catch yourself licking your lips, apply a non-irritating lip balm instead. Avoid holding metal items with your lips. Everyday items like paperclips, jewelry and reusable metal straws can irritate your lips. “Chapped lips are usually harmless, however sometimes they can be a sign of a medical condition,” says Dr. Sherber. “If your dry, chapped lips do not heal after following these tips for two to three weeks, talk to a board-certified dermatologist.” These tips are demonstrated in “How to Prevent and Treat Dry, Chapped Lips,” a video posted to the AAD website and YouTube channel.
