ENDS (ENDometriosis & FuSobacterium) Unveiling the Contribution of Fusobacterium Infection to the Development of Endometriosis

This will be a clinical interventional longitudinal study, without pharmacological intervention/device evaluation.
A control group would however be recruited for secondary objective 1 and 2.
The study is classified as interventional, as Fusobacterium detection is not part of the routine management of these patients; from the patients' point of view, participation in the study will involve the execution of additional vaginal and cervical swabs as additional procedure, while the endometrial biopsy will not represent an additional examination, as the study will include only patients for whom this examination is expected as per normal clinical practice.

Fusobacterium necrophorum septic arthritis of the hip: A case-report and literature review

INTRODUCTIONFusobacterium necrophorum is a rare but significant cause of septic arthritis, typically following oropharyngeal infections in adolescents. This anaerobic pathogen, commonly associated with Lemierre's syndrome, can lead to joint infections, posing risks for severe morbidity if diagnosis and treatment are delayed. Awareness and timely intervention are essential for preventing long-term joint damage.CASE REPORTWe report the case of a 19-year-old woman who developed high fever and acute right hip pain one week after a sore throat. Imaging revealed septic arthritis, with F. necrophorum identified in both blood and synovial fluid cultures. She received intravenous piperacillin/tazobactam, followed by outpatient parenteral therapy through an elastomeric pump, achieving full recovery. This case adds to the 42 cases documented in our literature review, reinforcing the need for prompt antimicrobial therapy.CONCLUSIONFusobacterium-induced septic arthritis, though uncommon, should be considered in young patients presenting with joint infections post-pharyngitis. Early diagnosis and targeted antimicrobial therapy, particularly with β-lactamase inhibitors, are critical for effective management and preventing joint sequelae.

AbstractBackgroundChronic gingivostomatitis in cats (FCGS) is a moderately to severely painful condition, potentially caused by inadequate immune response to oral antigenic stimulation. Salivary peptidome analysis can identify inflammatory protein mediators and pathways involved in oral mucosal immune activation and may indicate potential therapeutic options for FCGS.ObjectiveEvaluate the diversity and abundance of salivary peptides in cats with FCGS using matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization‐time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS) and nanoscale liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry (nano LC‐MS/MS).AnimalsThirty‐two cats with FCGS and 18 healthy controls.MethodsCase‐control cross‐sectional study. We compared the salivary peptide profiles of diseased and healthy cats. The diagnosis of FCGS was confirmed by histopathology. Saliva samples were analyzed for viral infections using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), peptide mass fingerprint (PMF) using MALDI‐TOF MS, and peptide identification using nano LC‐MS/MS.ResultsDistinct clusters of peptide profiles were observed between groups. In FCGS, 26 salivary peptides were altered, including apolipoprotein A1, nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member 3, fibrinogen alpha chain, interleukin 2 receptor gamma, interleukin 23 receptor, hemoglobin subunit alpha, and serpin peptidase inhibitor clade A (alpha‐1 antiproteinase, antitrypsin) member 12, protein‐tyrosine‐phosphatase, and cholinergic receptor nicotinic alpha 10 subunit. Protein‐anti‐inflammatory drug interaction networks were observed.Conclusions and Clinical ImportancePeptide mass fingerprint and peptide profiles identified distinct clusters between FCGS and healthy cats. The 9 novel salivary peptide markers were associated with the JAK/STAT and PI3K/Akt pathways and immune responses. These potentially noninvasive biomarkers may facilitate understanding of FCGS pathophysiology and guide future therapeutic research.

A rare case report: Pott's Puffy tumor and Lemierre's syndrome with intracranial complications in an adult male

Pott Puffy Tumor (PPT) is extremely rare, yet potentially severe condition characterized by osteomyelitis of the frontal bone associated with one or multiple subperiosteal abscesses, primarily from nasosinusitis. It is characterized by localized frontal swelling accompanied by a subperiosteal abscess. Clinicians and radiologists do not widely recognize this complication of frontal sinusitis and, hence it is likely to be overlooked in clinical practice. We describe, through this article, a unique case of frontal osteomyelitis in an immunocompromised patient, complicated by a subperiosteal orbital abscess, subdural empyema, intracerebral abscesses, superior sagittal sinus thrombosis, and pulmonary septic emboli, which also resulted in septic pulmonary infarcts, aligning with Lemierre's syndrome. Treatment included a combination of antibiotics and surgery, with careful monitoring for orbital and intracranial complications.
