This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 2 arm crossover study conducted over 11 weeks, with participants randomised to a product for 4 weeks, followed by a 3-week washout period before completing the second product for 4 weeks, to study the effectiveness of a grape seed extract on circulatory measures in healthy adults.

Effect of Procyanidins in the Leaky Gut Repairing Associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if the Grape Seed Extract Ecovitis, featuring low monomeric catechins content and a high concentration of oligo-polymeric procyanidins, could modulate the Gut Microbiota composition of Ulcerative Colitis patients during the remission phase. The main questions it aims to answer are:
Does Ecovitis improve the microbiota composition in patients with Ulcerative colitis? Is the intestinal permeability affected? What about the variation in the quality of life?
Participants will:

Proanthocyanidins and skeletal muscle health: An integrative systematic review of molecular, preclinical, and clinical evidence

BACKGROUND:

Declining skeletal muscle function contributes to physical disability, metabolic disease, and age-related frailty. Proanthocyanidins (PACs), particularly grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE), have been proposed as candidate interventions because of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic effects.

METHODS:

Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we searched PubMed and Google Scholar for studies published between January 2000 and September 2025 examining the effects of PACs/GSPE on skeletal muscle. Two independent reviewers screened 1245 records and extracted data from eligible studies.

RESULTS:

Fifteen unique studies met the inclusion criteria: ten animal studies, four in vitro studies, and one randomized controlled trial in humans. Preclinical studies consistently reported favorable effects on oxidative/mitochondrial signaling, muscle-fiber remodeling, glucose handling, and attenuation of oxidative or inflammatory injury markers. The single human trial (54 athletes; OPC 210 mg/day for 9 days) reported a smaller post-exercise CK rise, but it was short, unreplicated, and focused primarily on biochemical surrogate markers rather than functional outcomes.

CONCLUSIONS:

PACs show mechanistic plausibility for supporting skeletal muscle health in preclinical models. However, clinical efficacy remains unproven because human evidence is limited to one small short-duration RCT, and certainty of evidence was judged very low owing to indirectness and very serious imprecision.

Grape Seed Extract and Sodium Chloride as Interventions to Limit Clostridium perfringens Growth during Cooling

This study investigated the effects of sodium chloride (NaCl), grape seed extract (GSE), and cooling duration on the growth of Clostridium perfringens in cooked ground beef during slow exponential cooling. Meat samples containing 0-30 g/kg NaCl and 0-30 mL/kg GSE were cooled from 54.5 °C to 7.2 °C over 12, 15, 18, or 21 h. The programmed and actual cooling curves matched closely, ensuring consistent thermal conditions. C. perfringens growth was strongly influenced by NaCl concentration (P < 0.001), while GSE alone exhibited no significant effect (P > 0.05). Increasing NaCl levels significantly reduced net growth in a concentration-dependent manner. After 21 h of cooling, samples without NaCl reached approximately 7.2 log CFU/g, whereas the addition of 30 g/kg NaCl limited counts to approximately 2.3 log CFU/g, i.e., a reduction of nearly 5 log CFU/g. At 10 g/kg NaCl, growth was reduced by approximately 1.5-2.0 log CFU/g compared with the control. No significant interaction between NaCl and GSE was observed, indicating that reductions were primarily attributable to salt. These findings demonstrate that NaCl remains an effective control measure for C. perfringens during slow cooling, whereas GSE at practical concentrations provides minimal additional benefit. Studies focusing on optimizing multihurdle strategies to determine whether plant-derived antimicrobials can provide meaningful additional protection under practical meat-processing conditions are warranted.

Grape Seed Proanthocyanidin Extract (GSPE) Mitigates Preterm White Matter Injury in Mice Via Improving Mitochondrial Homeostasis and Activity of IMMP2L-Related Signaling Pathway

Grape seed proanthocyanidins extract (GSPE) has demonstrated significant neuroprotective efficacy in various neurodevelopmental disorders, nevertheless its potential beneficial role in preterm white matter injury (PWMI) remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of GSPE against PWMI and the underlying mechanisms. GSPE (20 mg/Kg) was taken orally by the mouse after PWMI modeling. The survival rate, incidence of macroscopic lesions, body weight change were calculated. The myelin damage was evaluated. Mitochondrial homeostasis‌ was detected in PWMI model mice and cultured oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs). Brain tissues from mice groups underwent RNA-seq. A dual-luciferase reporter assay was employed to validate the direct binding interaction between miR-153 and IMMP2L mRNA. The results showed that treatment of GSPE ameliorated cerebral ischemic injury in PWMI mice and improved behaviour ability and cognition deficits. GSPE restored mitochondria homeostasis in both PWMI mice and OPCs. Additionally, IMMP2L was found to be increased, while ROS was diminished by GSPE intervention. KEGG analysis showed that Wnt signaling pathway, the downstream of IMMP2L, changed significantly in PWMI group, while GSPE reversed it. The dual-luciferase reporter assay demonstrated that miR-153-3p directly suppressed IMMP2L expression through these binding sites. In summary, our findings revealed that GSPE treatment alleviated PWMI and restored mitochondrial homeostasis in mice.These beneficial effects are likely be attributed to the improvement of the activity of IMMP2L-related signaling pathways by GSPE.
