This is a phase Ib/II clinical study that has two phases. In phase Ib, the safety evaluation of the extract of Petiveria alliacea (Esperanza) will be carried out in patients with metastatic gastrointestinal tumors (colon, pancreas, stomach, and biliary tract) and patients with newly diagnosed and relapsed acute leukemia. In phase IIb, the safety will continue to be evaluated, and the efficacy of the Esperanza extract will be explored in combination with chemotherapy in patients with metastatic gastrointestinal tumors (colon, pancreas, stomach, and biliary tract) with newly diagnosed acute leukemias and relapses.

Study Characterizing the Impact of Different Therapeutic Strategies on Event Occurrence at 2 Years, 5 Years, 10 Years, and 15 Years, According to Prognostic Groups in Patients With Hodgkin Lymphoma

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving drugs in different combinations may kill more cancer cells. It is not yet know which treatment regimen is more effective in treating Hodgkin lymphoma.
PURPOSE: This phase III trial is studying three different therapy regimens to compare how well they work in treating patients with previously untreated Hodgkin lymphoma.

Enhanced cartilage repair using gelatin methacryloyl hydrogels combined with icariin and magnesium-doped bioactive glass

Cartilage repair remains challenging due to limited self-healing, poor biocompatibility, and insufficient mechanical properties of current materials. To overcome these issues, we developed a multifunctional composite hydrogel by integrating gelatine methacrylate (GelMA) with magnesium-doped bioactive glass (Mg-BG) and icariin (ICA). SEM analysis revealed that pure GelMA exhibited a highly porous yet loosely organized structure, whereas the addition of Mg-BG and ICA produced a denser, more interconnected porous network that enhances cell adhesion and nutrient diffusion. In vitro, the ICA/Mg-BG/GelMA hydrogel achieved a swelling ratio up to 430% and maintained cell viability above 80% over 5 days. Moreover, qRT-PCR and immunohistochemical analyses demonstrated that the composite hydrogel upregulated chondrogenic markers (SOX9, ACAN, and COL2A1) compared with GelMA alone. Specifically, it downregulates M1 pro-inflammatory markers (CCR7, iNOS, CD86) and upregulates M2 anti-inflammatory markers (ARG1, CD163, CD206), thereby creating a regenerative microenvironment. These results indicate that the synergistic combination of GelMA, Mg-BG, and ICA not only improves the scaffold's mechanical support but also enhances its biological functionality, offering a promising strategy for cartilage repair. Future studies will focus on in vivo validation to further assess its clinical potential.

Identification of fermentation time markers in caipu, a kind of traditional Chinese food

Caipu is a popular pickled dry radish originated in China with promoting digestion and anticancer effects.The older caipu is considered to possess greater edible and medicinal values.But its composition changes during long term storage are still unclear.In this study, the properties of caipu stored for different years were compared to identified markers of different storage time points.Caipu undergoes significant color change during fermentation, turning dark after 10 years.The SEM results showed that cell structures in caipu were gradually destroyed over time.The protein and fat contents of 10 to 40-yr-old caipu were significantly higher than those of 1-yr-old caipu, and that the protein and fat contents of 20-yr-old caipu reached peaks, at 14.0% and 13.2%, resp.Moreover, the 16S rRNA and ITS anal. results showed that bacterial and fungal diversity decreased after fermentationFinally, 67 kinds of volatile organic compound (VOCs) were identified by GC-MS.Among them, benzoic acid, furfural and tetradecamethyl cycloheptasiloxane were the most accumulated VOCs after fermentation and contributed to the distinctive aroma and flavor of caipu.In all, this study revealed the composition changes of caipu at different fermentation times, which will be beneficial for improving the processing of radish-based foods.

Odontogenic and anti-inflammatory effects of magnesium-doped bioactive glass in vital pulp therapy

AbstractThis study aimed to investigate the effects of magnesium-doped bioactive glass (Mg-BG) on the mineralization, odontogenesis, and anti-inflammatory abilities of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Mg-BG powders with different Mg concentrations were successfully synthesized via the sol-gel method and evaluated using x-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Apatite formation was observed on the surfaces of the materials after soaking in simulated body fluid. hDPSCs were cultured with Mg-BG powder extracts in vitro, and no evident cytotoxicity was observed. Mg-BG induced alkaline phosphatase (ALP) expression and mineralization of hDPSCs and upregulated the expression of odontogenic genes, including those encoding dentin sialophosphoprotein, dentin matrix protein 1, ALP, osteocalcin, and runt-related transcription factor 2. Moreover, Mg-BG substantially suppressed the secretion of inflammatory cytokines (interleukin [IL]-4, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha). Collectively, the results of this study suggest that Mg-BG has excellent in vitro bioactivity and is a potential material for vital pulp therapy of inflamed pulps.
