Lidocaine,the first amino amide–type local anesthetic (previous were amino esters),as opposed to the amino ester-type local anesthetics that were used before it, was originally called "xylocaine" . It works by blocking the sodium ion channels that are necessary for the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. Lidocaine was first synthesized in 1943 by Nils Löfgren, a Swedish chemist. It was first marketed in 1947, and quickly became a widely used medication。It indicated for the treatment of Ventricular tachycardia, Anesthesia,Neuralgia, Postherpetic,Hyperemesis Gravidarum.
