The aim of this study was investigate the comparison of postoperative effects of low laser treatment and platelet-rich fibrin application on mandibular impacted third molar tooth extraction. The study included a total of 60 patients with impacted mandibular third molar. Patients were evaluated in 4 randomly separated groups. In group 1, PRF was applied to the tooth socket. In group 2, PRF was applied to the tooth socket combined with Low Laser Treatment extraorally to the extraction area for three days within surgery day In group 3, Low Laser Treatment was applied to the extraorally to the extraction area for three days within surgery day. In group 4 (control group), tradional osteomy was made. The outcome variables were pain, swelling, the number of analgesics taken, and trismus. These variables were also assessed based on first, second, third, and seventh days following the operation. All of the 4 groups patients were prescribed an 875/125 mg amoxicillin/clavulanic acid tablet twice daily for five days.

Stereuins A–F: Isopentenyl benzene congeners with antibacterial and neurotrophic activities from Stereum hirsutum HFG27

Cultivation and extraction of the fungus Stereum hirsutum (Willd.) Pers. yielded 12 isopentenyl benzene derivatives, including six previously undescribed derivatives, named stereuins A-F. Their structures were established based on NMR and mass spectroscopy analyses, supplemented by comparison with previously reported data. Stereuins A-C are unique benzoate derivatives containing fatty acid subunits. Stereuins D and E feature a valylene group and a 6/6/6 ring system. In vitro, stereuin A significantly promoted neurite outgrowth. Several compounds exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Stereuin F has an IC₅₀ value of 5.2 μg/mL against S. aureus, comparable to the positive control, penicillin G sodium (1.4 μg/mL).

Efficient electrochemical oxidation of antibiotic wastewater using a graphene-loaded PbO2 membrane anode: Mechanisms and applications

This paper aims to develop a flow-through electrochemical system with a series of graphene nanoparticles loaded PbO₂ reactive electrochemical membrane electrodes (GNPs-PbO₂ REMs) on porous Ti substrates with pore sizes of 100, 150, 300 and 600 μm, and apply them to treat antibiotic wastewater. Among them, the GNPs-PbO₂ with Ti substrate of 150 μm (Ti-150/GNPs-PbO₂) had superior electrochemical degradation performance over the REMs with other pore sizes due to its smaller crystal size, larger electrochemical active specific area, lower charge-transfer impedance and larger oxygen evolution potential. Under the relatively optimized conditions of initial pH of 5, current density of 15 mA cm^-2, and membrane flux of 4.20 m³ (m²·h)^-1, the Ti-150/GNPs-PbO₂ REM realized 99.34% of benzylpenicillin sodium (PNG) removal with an EE/O of 6.52 kWh m^-3. Its excellent performance could be explained as the increased mass transfer. Then three plausible PNG degradation pathways in the flow-through electrochemical system were proposed, and great stability and safety of Ti-150/GNPs-PbO₂ REM were demonstrated. Moreover, a single-pass Ti-150/GNPs-PbO₂ REM system with five-modules in series was designed, which could consistently treat real antibiotic wastewater in compliance with disposal requirements of China. Thus, this study evidenced that the flow-through electrochemical system with the Ti-150/GNPs-PbO₂ REM is an efficient alternative for treating antibiotic wastewater.

Synthesis, antibacterial activity, and 3D-QASR studies of matrine-indole derivatives as potential antibiotics

Matrine and indole have antibacterial, anticancer, and other biological activities, in order to develop new antibiotics to solve the problem of multi-drug resistant bacteria. In this paper, we synthesized a series of 29 novel matrine derivatives as potential drug candidates by combining indole analogs and matrine. The antibacterial activity of these compounds was evaluated through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays against five bacterial strains (S. aureus, C. albicans, P. acnes, P. aeruginosa, and E. coli). The obtained results demonstrated promising antibacterial efficacy, particularly for compounds A20 and A18, which exhibited MIC_s._au values of 0.021 and 0.031 mg/ml, respectively, against S. aureus. Moreover, compounds A20 and A27 displayed remarkable MIC_c.al values of 2.806 and 4.519 mg/ml, respectively, against C. albicans, surpassing the performance of the clinical antibiotic penicillin G sodium (0.0368 mg/ml) and fluconazole (4.849 mg/ml). These findings underscore the significant bacteriostatic activity of the matrine derivatives. Furthermore, to gain a deeper understanding 3D-QSAR modeling was employed, revealing the critical influence of steric structure, charge distribution, hydrophobic interactions, and hydrogen bonding within the molecular structure on the bacteriostatic activity of the compounds. Additionally, molecular docking simulations shed light on the interaction between compound A20 and bacterial proteins, highlighting the involvement of hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions, and π-π conjugation in the formation of stable complexes that inhibit the normal functioning of the proteins. This comprehensive analysis provided valuable insights into the antibacterial mechanism of the novel matrine derivatives, offering theoretical support for their potential application as antibiotics.
