Jaipur: The health department released a list of six drugs on Monday that failed quality tests and are being sold in the market. These include commonly used antibiotics such as amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium, anti-allergic medicines like levocetirizine hydrochloride and montelukast, the gastro-resistant drug pantoprazole, and cefpodoxime, which is an antibiotic drug. These drugs failed the quality test as they did not contain any of the promised medicinal content. The drugs were manufactured in Bengaluru, Punjab, Sikkim, Mohali, and Himachal Pradesh. A sample of the medicine Pregabalin, which is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants, failed the quality test as it was found to have nil content of pregabalin. The drug was manufactured by a company in Mohali. A health department official said that directions have been issued to drug control officers in districts to remain alert and take necessary action. They have been directed to collect samples of other medicines manufactured by the companies whose samples failed the quality test. The samples of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium manufactured by a Bengaluru-based firm failed as they contained none of the promised drugs. Earlier, a report was issued by the health department in which samples of drugs in combination with nimesulide and paracetamol (pain relief), pheniramine maleate injection (to treat symptoms of allergic conditions), a combination of calcium carbonate and vitamin D3 suspension (dietary supplement for people who have bone problems or low calcium and vitamin D levels), a combination of telmisartan, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide (to treat high blood pressure), a combination of telmisartan and amlodipine (for high blood pressure), a combination of levocetirizine dihydrochloride and montelukast (relieves sneezing and runny nose due to allergies), heparin sodium injection (anticoagulant), and an injection of sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprim (treats infections caused by bacteria) failed quality tests. These drugs were manufactured in Baddi, Sirmour and Solan (Himachal Pradesh), Vadodara (Gujarat), Roorkee (Uttarakhand), and Digiana (Jammu).
